Glasgow Palestine Action in Court – Thales Action Solidarity

Wednesday, March 18 & Thursday March 19 – times TBA though 1pm on Wed start likely

Glasgow Sheriff Court, 1 Carlton Place, G5 9TW

Glasgow Palestine Action (https://twitter.com/glasgowbds) are in court on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th for taking action against Thales weapons systems manufacturer in Govan in September, 2014.

The trial start on WEDNESDAY 18th and will run to THURSDAY 19th. Bring banners, tea/coffee/food to share, take photos / video, musical instruments, your voices.

Join us in solidarity with all those facing injustice at the hands of a defunct criminal justice system. A system which defends the rights of corporations and weapons manufacturers ahead of people. Join us to raise awareness of how the arms trade in the UK is complicit in occupation, apartheid and colonialism in Palestine.

Ten activists were arrested after shutting down a Thales UK factory in Glasgow to protest the company’s relationship with the Israeli military. Staged in response to Israel’s military onslaught that killed more than 2,100 Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, including more than 500 children, the action sought to protest “the UK economy’s ever growing military industrial cooperation with governments that flout international law”.

Thales signed a $1.6 billion contract with Israel’s largest military technology firm Elbit Systems in 2011 to develop a new drone fleet for the UK military called Watchkeeper. Watchkeeper is based on Elbit’s Hermes 450 model, one of Israel’s most widely deployed attack drones. Like most weapons developed in Israel, the Hermes 450 has been tested and perfected on the people of Gaza.

This action is part of a worldwide effort to target arms alliances with Israel. It forms part of a wider struggle, for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel. See http://www.bdsmovement.net/.

Glasgow Palestine Action are a network of people – women, queer and trans led – organizing and taking action against Israeli apartheid through BDS and other solidarity work.

Glasgow Social Centre presents… Double film screening + meal

Saturday, 28 March at 4:00pm – 7:00pm

Location to be confirmed

The newly reformed Glasgow Social Centre collective invite you to our first fundraising event: come along and eat, watch a film, find out what we’re organising in the city and how you can get involved.

We will be screening 2 films simultaneously, one family friendly film in a supervised crèche space, and a documentary in the second room. Parents should feel free to move between both rooms as they feel comfortable.

After the film there will be food and space to chat about the social centre and ways to get involved. Food will be vegan, and there will be healthy snacks for the kids.

We are trying to raise money for the new social centre, but we understand that a lot of folks are skint, so whilst we would love a suggested donation of £3, the most important thing is that people come along, and those without papers or on low/no incomes are welcome to attend for free. If you’ve got lots of money feel free to give us most of it!

FAMILY FILM: Spirited Away

DOCUMENTARY: Concerning Violence

Yesbar,14 Drury Street, Glasgow, G2 5AA

Feminist comedian Sarah Cassidy presents her third full-length stand-up show to a room full of friends and strangers. The show is about love primarily, but also it’s about dinosaurs. This is a challenge; Sarah will be the first person ever to combine gender politics and paleontology in a comedy format. Expect ill-placed jokes about ancient reptiles intentionally crowbarred into an otherwise touching and honest show about relationships.
