Glasgow city council have of recent years sold off our social housing, our parks, our libraries, our sporting facilities and our art galleries. Now they want to close 25 Primary level schools and Nurseries claiming that they need to save £3.72m. Why, we are forced to ask, should the council need to save this much money? Having sold off almost all our communal assets they need to ‘save’ money by attacking the education of our children.
This kind of situation, one where the future of our community is put at risk because of fiscal incompetence and corruption, could never happen in an anarchist society.
The council seems to think that it can ride roughshod over our communities and the welfare of the children of our city. We have to tell them NO! They can not play with our futures like chips on a poker table.
How is it that millions can be spent on the Commonwealth games, billions on bailing out the richest part of our society, the banks, and yet the closure of schools is an acceptable cost!
If the council cannot manage it’s finances, which come from OUR pockets, then maybe we should take back control of our schools ourselves. A school should be an integral part of the community, there to facilitate learning and to help produce healthy, happy members of society. Schools are not there for the council to open and shut as they see fit!
They’re OUR kids!
They’re OUR schools!
It’s OUR future and OUR city!
